1 Fruit That Fights Fat

Can this one food eaten daily help you lose weight?

We all know the saying “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”. That’s for a good reason.

Studies have linked apples to lower risk for developing cancers, high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease.

One study even compared statin drugs to apples in their effect of lowering cholesterol. Surprisingly, the apples fared just as well as the pills and without any of the side effects!

But what about weight loss? If we can lose the weight, several other diseases can be prevented as well.

It turns out that this “miracle fruit” stands true to its reputation here too.

The apple has now been shown to help fight obesity and is recommended for people who want to lose weight. The Granny Smith variety in particular was found to have the most benefits for weight loss.

So what’s in an apple anyway? Think of this fruit as a nutrition powerhouse.

For one, it’s packed with antioxidants, including a healthy dose of Vitamin C. Antioxidants help boost immunity and fight cancer. Apples are also full of B vitamins – essential for your nervous system and blood cells. Furthermore, all kinds of minerals are found in apples such as calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus.

But here is the real reason why an apple a day will help you lose weight.

The crunchy fruit contains plenty of fiber as well as molecules called polyphenols. These non-digestible substances are fermented by bacteria in our gut resulting in the production of butyric acid. The latter promotes a healthy gut environment and the further growth of friendly gut bacteria.

Now, you probably don’t think of bacteria as your friend in fighting diseases.

However, doctors warn that an imbalance of the “bugs” living in our gut causes chronic inflammation which leads to malabsorption of essential nutrients and eventually to diabetes and obesity.

It is therefore important for us to promote friendly bacterial growth in the gut. The ones that help us absorb nutrients and keep us healthy.

What type of bacteria live in the gut is determined largely by what types of foods we eat. Fibers and polyphenols found in apples are exactly the type of food we should be eating to promote a healthy gut and weight loss.

An apple a day can indeed keep the pounds away. It is just one of the many simple things everyone can do to stay healthy.

IMPORTANT: If you want to get the most benefits of an apple, make sure you eat it raw. Do not make a juice because this will only provide you with the vitamins and minerals but not with the obesity fighting fiber.
